Abstract

Abstract

Calcium phosphate coatings is coated on metallic implants by different methods like as plasma spray, solgel, electrolytic, biomimetic etc. Because they have biocompatible properties that can able to bond to bone. Additionally calcium phosphate coatings promotes corrosion resist of implants. Coating must be done due to incompatibility and corrosion of metallic biomaterials with tissue. The sol-gel method was also used for synthesis of powders. Bioceramic powders have different bioactivity such as bioactive, biodegredable and bioinert. There are many calcium phosphates that have different Ca/P ratios. Tricalcium phosphate (TCP), tetracalcium phosphate ( TTCP), dicalcium phosphate dehydrate (DCPD) and hydroxyapatite (HA) are the most common calcium phosphate compounds.

In this study, calcium phosphate based-bioceramic powders with different composition (DCPD, TCP, HA and TTCP) were produced by sol-gel method. Particle size, scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) analyzes were performed on the synthesized powders.  They were coated on the titanium surface by Plasma spray method. After coating layers were chatacterized by SEM-EDX, microhardness test and thickness of layers were measure.
